We asked <strong>Ashley Rowthorn<\/strong>, CEO of <em>Legacy Futures<\/em>, more about the awards and this year&#8217;s categories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the third time, <em>Legacy Futures<\/em> launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/legacyfutures.com\/legacy-futures-bursary-awards-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legacy Bursary Awards<\/a>. Can you tell us more about the ideas behind the awards and why you found them?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">We founded the Legacy Futures awards in January 2020 as a way to resource and support the legacy sector that we have long been part of. But in fact, our first bursary award programme was actually set up in 2017 in honour of Crispin Ellison, one of our former directors at Legacy Link. Crispin spent his entire career training and empowering others to become better and more effective legacy managers. He was a founding member of the <em>Institute of Legacy Management<\/em> (ILM), and was involved in establishing their training programme. When Crispin retired from Legacy Link due to ill health, we wanted to do something positive to continue his own legacy. Sadly he died from Motor Neurone Disease a couple of years later, but we have continued the bursary in his memory. We have now funded 10 students through their ILM certificate in legacy administration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This year, you also launched an international category. Why did you decide to have a separate category for non-UK awards?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">We opened up our awards last year to non-UK applications because we recognised that legacy giving is growing right around the world. <em>Deakin University<\/em> in Australia was one of our winners, and we worked together with them to develop their stewardship programme and explore how they might reach out to a wider audience beyond their University Alumni.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><strong>What are you looking for in non-UK applications for the International Bursary?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_xelementtoproof\">This is a great question. There is no restriction on who can apply.
